Inside the European Factories Behind LKD Health: A Founder’s On-the-Ground Tour
In late October 2023, LKD Health founder Dr. Lucas Le crossed France, Italy, and Spain in a single working trip — inspecting cleanrooms, sitting with R&D teams, and signing strategic agreements with three of Europe’s most respected supplement and healthcare manufacturers. This is what the work of bringing trustworthy products to Vietnamese families actually looks like.
At LKD Health, every product on a Vietnamese pharmacy shelf is backed by something many importers skip: a personal visit to the factory that makes it. Our founder, Dr. Lucas, travels regularly across Europe to inspect the partners behind our portfolio — walking the production lines, reviewing quality systems, and meeting the scientists who develop the formulations our customers will eventually use.
In late 2023, that work took him on a three-country tour across Spain, France, and Italy. Below is a look at what these visits involved, and why they matter for every distributor, pharmacist, and family that trusts a product imported by LKD Health.
Spain — Laboratorios Virens, Barcelona
The tour began in Barcelona with Laboratorios Virens, a Spanish manufacturer specialized in advanced food supplements, where Dr. Lucas signed a formal strategic partnership agreement covering high-quality Spanish-made supplements bound for the Vietnamese market.
Before signing, Dr. Lucas spent the day inside the Virens facility — reviewing the warehouse and raw material storage area, examining how incoming ingredients are received, quarantined, sampled, and released for production. The team walked through Virens’ documentation system for every batch of every active ingredient, from supplier certificates of analysis to internal stability data.
A significant portion of the visit focused on Virens’ R&D capabilities and their ability to customize formulations — a critical point for LKD Health, since many products entering Vietnam need to be adjusted for the specific physiology and dietary patterns of Vietnamese consumers rather than copied wholesale from European formulations.
France — Lustrel Laboratoires
Four days later, Dr. Lucas arrived in France to sign a strategic alliance agreement with Lustrel Laboratoires, a French manufacturer known for quality healthcare products. France has long held a special place in LKD Health’s portfolio — Dr. Lucas completed his doctorate and his early industry career there, and his scientific French remains a working asset in negotiations like this one.
The French stop involved a detailed walkthrough of Lustrel’s laboratory infrastructure, including its stability testing room — the controlled-environment chambers where every batch is monitored across its full shelf life under regulated temperature and humidity. This is one of the quiet, unglamorous capabilities that separates a serious European manufacturer from a generic supplier, and it is exactly the kind of detail Dr. Lucas looks for before recommending a product to Vietnamese distributors.
The conversations with Lustrel’s technical team also covered new formulation projects designed jointly for the Vietnamese market — adjusting active dosages, delivery formats, and sensory profiles to match local preferences while keeping the European manufacturing and compliance backbone fully intact.
Italy — Gricar Chemical, Brugherio
The tour closed in northern Italy with Gricar Chemical Srl, established in 1970 — a long-standing Italian manufacturer of high-technology food supplements and the home of patented delivery technologies including EmulDrop, a proprietary emulsion system that dramatically improves the bioavailability of fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamin D3.
At Gricar, Dr. Lucas spent extended time in the company’s R&D laboratory with the formulation team, reviewing both standard product lines and the development of new products tailored for Vietnamese physiology and consumer needs — from children’s supplements to women’s health and immunity support.
The Italian visit also included a full tour of Gricar’s production and packaging lines, where Dr. Lucas observed the in-process quality controls on every stage: mixing precision, fill weight accuracy, blister and bottle sealing integrity, and the printed-batch verification on outer cartons before shipment.
What Every Visit Is Really Checking
A factory tour, done seriously, is not a photo opportunity. Across all three visits, the same checklist was applied:
- Working environment and facility hygiene — cleanroom classification, air handling, personnel flow, and gowning procedures.
- Production equipment and process controls — modern blending, filling, and packaging machinery with documented validation and routine maintenance records.
- Laboratory and quality control capability — in-house testing for identity, potency, and contaminants, with full stability programs across each product’s shelf life.
- Raw material control — supplier qualification, incoming inspection, traceability, and quarantine systems for every batch of every ingredient.
- Warehouse and finished-goods management — controlled storage conditions, FEFO (first-expiry-first-out) discipline, and clean export-ready logistics.
- Documentation and regulatory compliance — GMP certifications, ISO standards, and full traceability from raw material lot to finished product carton.
When a factory falls short on any of these, the conversation ends politely and LKD Health moves on. When a factory excels at all of them — as Virens, Lustrel, and Gricar each do in their respective specializations — the next step becomes a formal strategic agreement.
Building Products, Not Just Importing Them
A recurring theme across all three visits was joint product development. LKD Health is not a passive distributor that picks finished products off a European catalog and ships them to Asia. The most valuable conversations of this trip were about co-developing formulations — sitting with European R&D teams and discussing what Vietnamese consumers actually need.
European bodies and Asian bodies metabolize certain nutrients differently. Vietnamese children, women, and elderly consumers have specific nutritional gaps and clinical priorities that don’t always match the European default. By bringing this market knowledge directly into the European laboratory, LKD Health helps its manufacturing partners create formulations that are scientifically European in their rigor, but practically Vietnamese in their design.
Three Strategic Agreements, One Long-Term Commitment
By the end of the trip, LKD Health had signed three strategic partnership and exclusive distribution agreements — one in each country. Each agreement gives LKD Health primary or exclusive rights to import and distribute the partner’s products in Vietnam, accompanied by joint commitments on marketing support, technical training for distributors and pharmacists, and ongoing product development.
These are not transactional contracts. They are long-term alliances built on the same conviction that has guided LKD Health since 2016: that European science deserves to reach Vietnamese consumers, but only through partners willing to do the hard work of doing it properly.
Why It Matters
For our distributor and retail partners across Vietnam, on-the-ground visits like this trip are the foundation of what LKD Health can credibly promise. Every product we offer has been seen — personally, in production — by our founder, a scientist trained in the same European tradition as the people manufacturing it.
For our European manufacturing partners, these visits are equally important. They demonstrate that LKD Health is not a passive importer but an engaged scientific and commercial partner — one that understands the value of what is being made, and is committed to placing it in Vietnamese hands with the same care it was made with.
Three countries, three signed alliances, and one continuing mission: to bring the best of European healthcare science to Vietnamese families — with the rigor and the relationships that make it possible.
